Power Toys for Windows XP

There are several things in XP that can really get annoying. If you are a developer, and use processes in DOS, XP's utilities can be very unintuitive. While scouring the web for better tools, we found free Microsoft XP Powertools that and some kick to your XP operating system.

Internet Explorer Saves Images in BMP Format

Have you ever saved a GIF or JPG image from the web and IE changes the format to BMP? Other than it being an annoying new feature, and quite pointless, there is a work around for this:

Delete the temporary internet files by selecting Tools, Options, General tab and select the Delete Files button

Email Spoofing - Someone is using an Email Account on My Domain

Several customers have questioned why they are getting postmaster messages from email addresses that don't exist on their domain. This is commonly known as email spoofing and is a widespread epidemic of the internet. In reality, anyone can send an email to you from the email address billgates@microsoft.com, but clearly this is a hoax. Here is a better explanation of the email spoofing epidemic we found online:

Show Linux Version Command?

Just in case you were wondering what kernel you were using on that spanking new Linux box:

uname -a


The above command shows the linux kernel version from the terminal console window or via telnet on any Linux OS.
